Community Development

The Community Development Department consists of planning, zoning, GIS, and building inspections.

The Town of Surf City is completing the Comprehensive Land Use Plan update. Staff, Planning Board and Town Council have reviewed the draft plan. As a part of the adoption process, the Town will hold a public hearing at the February Council meeting. This meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 4:30 pm on February 7, 2023. Once adopted, this plan will guide zoning decisions within the study area. The draft plan is below for your use.

Once logged in select your permit, the ViewPoint system has further instructions on how to submit the application and other required documents. Also included are detailed instructions on how to request inspections online and receive inspection results. Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) Permits

The State of North Carolina requires that a special CAMA permit be obtained for areas located near coastal waters. Access the North Carolina Environmental Quality Division of Coastal Management website for more information on CAMA permits or contact Jason Dail at 910-796-7221.
